Eight Knights Earn VaSID All-State Honors For Track & Field: Simons Earns Field Rookie of the Year

Buena Vista, VA - The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) released its 2025 men's and women's outdoor track and field All-State teams for the college division on Thursday morning. Amongst several Knights who are featured, Marin Simons stands out as the Women's Field Rookie of the Year.

Women's All-State

Simons concluded one of the best freshman campaigns in program history after securing First Team All-American honors in the high jump at the NCAA Championships. She also won the USA South Outdoor title and posted the best mark in program history with a clearance of 1.69m (5' 6.5") at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier.

Joining Simons on the first team is Heidi Barton. Barton led a storied season in the middle-distance events, establishing new program records in the 1,500 and 800. She ultimately put her stamp on the 800 by qualifying for the NCAA Championship meet and finishing in the top twenty. Her time of 2:09.45 was tops in the South Region.

Bayleigh Redd, a national qualifier in the steeplechase three seasons ago, made an appearance on the second team for distance and Surraiya Mahmud, another one of the Knights standout freshmen, was awarded second team recognition for the jumps and throws.

Men's All-State

The men's team led all schools with four athletes on the all-state second team. After combining for four individual titles at the USA South Outdoor Championship, and establishing multiple new program records, Joseph Hughes (Mid-distance) and Dylan May (Distance) were recognized. May was also voted as the USA South Outdoor Track Athlete of the Meet.

Jayton Hall and McCormick Johnson also made the cut for their performances in the jumps. Hall had stood out for the last several seasons in the high jump, winning multiple conference championships and ranking amongst the best in the region. Johnson came on strong in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.61m (15 1.5") and claimed the USA South Outdoor title.
