Lynchburg, VA - Continuing its postseason slate, the Southern Virginia University men's and women's track and field teams participated in the Liberty Twilight Qualifier, hosted on the campus of Liberty University.
Several Knights took another shot at posting national championship qualifying marks, and some of them competed in heats and flights that featured professional athletes. Events took place throughout Tuesday afternoon and into the early evening, providing quality weather to deliver competitive finishes.
Heidi Barton competed in the women's 800m, finishing fourth in time of 2:14.87 and edging out a couple of Division l athletes in the process. Barton has now posted the six fastest times in the event in outdoor program history. Kedryn Chandler also competed on the men's side of the 800, posting a time of 1:59.62, his third time under two minutes this season.
In the high jump, Marin Simons broke the women's program record for the third time this season. She cleared a height of 1.69m (5' 6.5") on her second attempt to keep pace with the top jumpers in the country. She finished third overall in the meet and is tied for 8th in the country for Division lll. Simons also had attempts at 1.72 meters, which if cleared, would've moved her up to third nationally.
Jilane Perdersen delivered another quality performance in the javelin throw, and Folole Torres and Nick Del Pontone were not too far off personal bests in the 400H.
