Aly Schmitt was named Social Media Manager for athletics in July 2024. She oversees the activity on all social media accounts for each of the varsity sports at Southern Virginia University.
Before joining the Southern Virginia staff, Aly earned a B.S. in Communications with a minor in Digital Marketing from Utah Valley University ('24). She held numerous positions within athletics while completing her undergraduate studies, starting as a manager for 'The Den', the official student fan organization at Utah Valley University. Later, she became a Digital Marketing Manager for the athletics program. In this role, she oversaw social media for women's basketball, women's volleyball, softball, and golf.
She also drove engagement and secured verification for all Utah Valley athletics accounts, including the women's volleyball Instagram, which reached over three million in outreach within six months. Aly's skills expand to photography, social media analytics, and Adobe Suite.
Aly is a former athlete with a great passion for sports and knew that a career in athletics was the path for her. Other passion's of hers include storytelling and content creation which has taken her on memorable trips—from Las Vegas to Fiji—documenting unforgettable athletic events and experiences.
