Alexander Williams enters his first year as Assistant Sport Performance Coach at Southern Virginia University, where he is committed to helping student-athletes excel in their physical performance, mental resilience, and spiritual growth.
He holds a Bachelor of Exercise Science from Southern Utah University and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Sport Performance and Conditioning at the same institution. With extensive experience across diverse roles in coaching, leadership, and personal training, Alex brings a unique blend of expertise, empathy, and faith-driven mentorship to his work.
Throughout his career, Alex has honed his skills in leadership and performance coaching. As a former Marine Corps Supply Supervisor, he cultivated discipline, teamwork, and organizational acumen by leading small teams in high-pressure environments. Transitioning to the fitness industry, he served as a coach and trainer at CrossFit Cedar City, the owner and head coach of Lion’s Den Strength and Conditioning LLC, and as a Personal Trainer Lead at VASA Fitness. In each of these roles, he emphasized holistic development, blending proper technique, individualized programming, and the mental aspects of performance to help clients and athletes achieve their goals.
Currently, at Southern Virginia University, he coaches collegiate athletes, focusing on strength, conditioning, and fostering character through sport.
Alex’s journey is shaped by his experiences overcoming significant challenges as a child in the foster system. These formative years instilled in him a deep sense of empathy and resilience, equipping him to mentor athletes not only in sport but also in life. He sees his work as a calling to help others uncover their divine potential, striving to bring light to Christ and assisting athletes in finding their true purpose through their relationship with Heavenly Father.
Alex holds multiple professional certifications, including ISSA credentials in personal training, strength and conditioning, nutrition, and glute specialization, and is working toward completing his NSCA-CSCS. He also has extensive experience in behavioral services, having worked as a Lead Registered Behavior Technician and Lead Shift Supervisor. These roles sharpened his ability to create safe, structured environments and provide compassionate guidance, further enriching his ability to support and inspire his athletes.
Married with two children, Alex is passionate about fostering meaningful connections with his family, athletes, and colleagues. He integrates his faith, professional expertise, and life experiences to inspire student-athletes to reach their fullest potential, on the field, in the weight room, and in their spiritual lives.
