Sam Miller

Sam Miller joins the Southern Virginia University football staff for his first season coaching the Wide Receivers while also serving as the programs Director of Football Operations. He most recently served as the Running Backs coach at Johns Hopkins University, where he was part of the first 12-0 season in school history. While at Johns Hopkins, Miller led a running back room that produced five different 100-yard rushers, totaling over 1,900 rushing yards, 19 touchdowns, and 5.3 yards per carry. He also helped guide the program to an Elite Eight appearance, was part of the 2023 Centennial Conference Coaching Staff of the Year, and earned national recognition as a member of the 2024 Coach Tools “25 Under 25.”

Before Johns Hopkins, Miller coached Running Backs and H-backs at Defiance College, where he coached multiple All-HCAC selections including Tyshaun Freeman, and helped improve the programs rushing production and national rankings.

As a player, Miller began his collegiate career at Brevard College before transferring to Southern Virginia, where he completed his bachelor’s degree in Business Leadership/Management. He later earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from Defiance College.
