BUENA VISTA, Va. - Looking to rebound after their first loss in nearly a month, the Southern Virginia University women's basketball team made quick work of Greensboro College on Tuesday, defeating the Pride 87-52.
Greensboro applied immense defensive pressure from the tip, using a consistent two-team rotation to keep the Knights on their toes.
Southern Virginia handled it well, particularly in the first quarter as they opened up a double digit advantage. In the second, crisp passing led to easy transition layups and the lead continued to grow, putting Southern Virginia up 46-27 by halftime.
Samantha Smith didn't allow the break in the action to slow her down. Smith registered two quick buckets to open the third on her way to a career high of 18 points.
The Knights defense also stood out in the third, giving up just 10 points and causing numerous turnovers to increase the lead to 68-37 before the start of the final frame. Ruth Kempler was on her way to her first double-double of the season, securing 10 boards and posting 10 points.

The Knights maintained their lead in the fourth quarter to put themselves back in the win column and remain undefeated against USA South opponents.
Six players scored in double figures for one of Southern Virginia's best all-around performances of the season. Defensively, Abigail Snyder led with five steals and Maya Foster tallied two blocks.
