Southern Virginia Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Top-Seeded Meredith in USA South Semifinal

Raleigh, NC – The Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team traveled to North Carolina to face the top-seeded Meredith College Avenging Angels. Unfortunately for the Knights, their postseason run came to an end with a 27-4 loss.

Meredith, who went undefeated in conference play this season, wasted no time asserting their dominance. After a quick three-goal run, Southern Virginia found themselves in an early hole. However, Kenzie Poulsen responded with a goal, attempting to spark some momentum for the Knights. But the Avenging Angels answered with a relentless goal streak, taking a commanding lead into halftime.

Meredith continued to press in the third quarter, adding multiple goals to their tally. Southern Virginia managed to add another when Ellie Patterson capitalized on a woman-up opportunity late in the third. Poulsen then scored her second goal of the match on a free-position shot before the end of the third.

Southern Virginia's final goal came from USA South Rookie of the Year Makenzie Mickelsen, but the effort was not enough to stem the tide. Meredith cruised to a decisive victory.

Despite falling short of the USA South Tournament championship match for the fourth straight year, the Knights had a strong season. They posted a 10-8 overall record and lost only three regular season conference games. Six Knights earned All-Conference honors, showcasing the talent of the squad.
