Buena Vista, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team continued their postseason push with a commanding 4-0 victory over Salem College in the first round of the USA South Conference Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at the Knight Sports Arena Courts.
The Knights jumped out to a quick start in doubles play. At No. 1 doubles, Paula Snelson and Jillian Arnold teamed up to take a convincing 6-2 win, while Lydia Delich and Remly Fry dominated at No. 2 with a 6-0 shutout to clinch the doubles point. The No. 3 doubles match was left unfinished with Nadia Molanphy and Hailey Seamons leading 5-3.
In singles action, the Knights wasted no time closing out the match. Senior Paula Snelson rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1, while Remly Fry and Nadia Molanphy delivered nearly flawless performances at No. 4 and No. 5, both winning 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively.
The remaining singles matches at No. 2, 3, and 6 were left unfinished after the Knights clinched the team victory.
With the win, Southern Virginia improves to 8-6 overall and advances to the USA South Semifinals, where they will face Pfeiffer University on Friday, April 25 at 2:00 PM in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, hosted by N.C. Wesleyan University.
