Southern Virginia University Beach Volleyball Wraps Up Final Regular Season Weekend at Stevenson Invitational

Owings Mills, Md. – The Southern Virginia University beach volleyball team wrapped up its regular season with a gritty and resilient showing at the Stevenson Invitational, going 2-2 over two days of cold, rainy competition. The Knights earned two wins over Lancaster Bible and showed competitive spirit in hard-fought losses to Stevenson and Lynchburg.

Southern Virginia opened Friday's action with a dominant 4-1 win over Lancaster Bible, highlighted by commanding victories from several pairs:

#1 Pair Kami Milius and Claire Grasteit: 21-11, 21-13

#2 Pair Baylee Savage and Callie Tuckfield: 22-20, 21-19

#4 Pair Charity Elam and Brynn Keeling: 21-12, 21-13

#5 Pair Gabi Green and London Skea: 21-15, 20-22, 15-10

Milius and Grasteit continued their exceptional run as the team's top pair, winning in straight sets and setting the tone for the day.

In an evening matchup, the Knights fell to tournament host Stevenson University 1-4, despite another strong performance from Milius and Grasteit, who secured the team's only win: 21-17, 22-20.

Saturday opened with a 1-4 loss to Lynchburg, but the Knights remained competitive in multiple flights. Once again, Milius and Grasteit were dominant, winning 21-6, 21-15. The #4 and #3 pairs both went to three sets but came up just short.

The Knights rebounded in the afternoon with a convincing 4-1 win over Lancaster Bible in their second meeting of the weekend:

#1 Pair Milius and Grasteit: 21-13, 21-10

#3 Pair Emily Peterson and Mikki Prows: 21-10, 21-23, 15-12

#4 Pair Elam and Keeling: 21-14, 21-12

#5 Pair Green and Skea: 21-19, 21-16

Exhibition (Harris/Almond): 21-16, 21-17

Head Coach Jon Baker praised his squad's resilience:

"The weekend was cold and wet. At times we could have beaten anyone. The teams battled in every set. I'm very proud of all of them."

Senior standout Kami Milius echoed that spirit:

"We came into this weekend with strong energy, beginning with a win against Lancaster Bible 4-1! We had a hard-fought battle against Stevenson and Lynchburg, cheering each other on even in the cold rain and wind! Then we ended the weekend with a fun third set battle in the 3's pair taking the dub! Our team has so much fun and energy on and off the court. Couldn't have asked for better teammates!"

With the regular season behind them, Southern Virginia now turns its focus to the AVCA Small College Beach Volleyball Championships, held April 17–19 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
