Southern Virginia University Softball Splits Games in Non-Conference Matchup with Averett

Danville, Va. - The Southern Virginia University Knights lose the first game against the Averett University Cougars in a close fight with a final score of 5-4, but dominate the second game with a 12-4 win.

Game 1

The Southern Virginia University Knights started out hot in the first inning, with five hits before the first out. A single from Arianna Prymack, Chloe Nelson, and Dykell Jones, followed by a double from Katie Claytor showcased the Knights as an offensive powerhouse. All four of these hitters also reached home base, adding four runs to the board and setting the bar high in the first inning.

Unfortunately, the Knight's defense was unable to keep up with the Cougar's offense, and remained scoreless for the remaining innings.

Averett scored two runs in the first inning on a couple of stolen bases and throwing errors, and tacked on other runs in inning two, three, and six. The final scores ended at 5-4, Averett.

Game 2

The Southern Virginia University Softball team returned to the second game with the determination and motivation for the comeback win. The Knights did just that, racking up an impressive 13 hits with 0 errors recorded in the entire game.

Malia Stauffer proved to be an impressive asset on both the defensive and the offensive, with 2 runs from her 3 total at-bats, and two RBIs under her name for the game; as well as taking the win as the Knight's pitcher.

Sophia Badell also led the Knight's in runs and RBIs, gaining two in both of those categories.

The Southern Virginia University Softball team came back in the second game with a rejuvenated spirit and dominated the field. They look forward to continuing this momentum on March 29th at 1:00 and 3:00 PM at North Carolina Wesleyan in Rocky Mount, NC.
