Buena Vista, Va. – The Southern Virginia University Knights took on the Maryville College Scots in a double header Tuesday afternoon. The Knights fell in both games, losing 6-0 and 7-2.
The Scots got the better of the Knights in game one of the double header. The Knights defense continued to work hard but let up in three innings, conceding six runs. The Knights left eight Maryville players on base in seven innings, slowing down the Scots offense.
In game two the Knights attempted to strike back but after a long defensive battle, Maryville scored late, with two runs in the fourth and five in the fifth, taking a 7-0 lead. The Knights offense had a spark off of two hits from
Sophia Badell and a
Katie Claytor double. Southern Virginia capitalized on Claytor's double, getting her home to score on a passed ball in the bottom of the fifth.
The Knights scored one more run in the bottom of the seventh when
Mattison Christensen doubled to left field. Christensen finished her trip around the bases after a
Chloe Nelson single leading to the final score of 7-2.
The Knights will continue their regular season play March 14 in Lynchburg, Va. against Randolph College.
