GREENSBORO, NC. — On Wednesday afternoon, the Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team (5-3, 3-0 USA South) cruised to a 23-3 victory over Greensboro College (0-3, 0-2 USA South) on the Pride's home turf.
The Knights got off to a fast start, with
Kate Richards and
Baylee Bruce finding the back of the net in the opening minutes to give Southern Virginia an early 2-0 lead. Greensboro responded quickly, with Rosanna Espinosa-Pon scoring her first goal to cut the lead to 2-1.
Addison England and
Piper Searle added goals for the Knights to give them a 4-1 lead before Greensboro's Espinosa-Pon scored her second goal to cut the lead to 4-2.
Southern Virginia scored three more goals in the first quarter, with Richards scoring her second goal, and
Piper Searle adding two more goals to give the Knights a 7-3 lead at the end of the first.
The Knights dominated the remainder of the game, outscoring Greensboro 17-0.
Roxy LeBaron and
Addison England each scored two goals. At the same time, Richards, Johnson, Searle, Ashlynn Richards,
India Asay,
Reagan Bullock,
Rylee Webster,
McKayla Martin, and
Skylar Roe each added a goal to give Southern Virginia the 23-3 victory.
The Knights dominated every aspect of the game, outshooting Greensboro 39-4 and winning 24 ground balls compared to the Pride's five. The defense was also impressive, forcing Greensboro into 18 turnovers.
Southern Virginia will look to continue their winning ways on Friday, March 31, hosting Meredith College at Knight Stadium. Game time is set for 6:00 PM.
