Knights Men's Lacrosse Grabs Second Consecutive Victory of the Season Over Panthers

BUENA VISTA, VA. — In a thrilling match-up between Southern Virginia University and LaGrange College, Southern Virginia's men's lacrosse team emerged victorious with a score of 14-10, securing their second consecutive victory in two days.

The game started off with a bang, as Southern Virginia's Clay Haacke scored the opening goal just five minutes into the game, followed shortly by Jon Yandow's goal at the 10:26 mark. LaGrange responded with three goals of their own, with Jack Bryan, Ryan Comeau, and Michael Poteete each finding the back of the net.

But the Knights refused to let the Panthers take the lead, as Yandow and Scott DuPaix each scored before the end of the first quarter, going ahead 4-3. Michael Brown and Gabe King scored crucial goals for Southern Virginia in the second quarter, heading into halftime tied at six.

The third quarter was a back-and-forth battle, with Ryan Comeau scoring for LaGrange and Haacke and Zak Sullivan scoring for Southern Virginia, leaving the score at 8-6 going into the final quarter.

The Knights came out strong in the fourth quarter, with Yandow, Haacke, Davis Grant, Connor Haacke, and Gabe King each scoring to extend their lead to 13-7. The Panthers fought back with goals from Luke Young and Michael Poteete, but it was too little, too late. Clay Haacke scored his fourth goal of the game with just under three minutes remaining, sealing the victory for Southern Virginia.

Clay Haacke led the offense with four goals with Yandow following his game from the previous day with a hat-trick.

The Knights' defense also deserves credit for their strong performance, holding LaGrange to just one goal in the third quarter and outlasting the Panther offense in the fourth. Michael Brown led the unit with four caused turnovers while Jaydon Arnold scooped up ten ground balls, going 20-for-26 at the X.

It was a hard-fought victory for Southern Virginia, with standout performances from Haacke, Yandow, and King. The team will look to carry this momentum into their next game and continue their winning streak at Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday, March 22, scheduled for 4 pm.
