Knights' Women's Lacrosse Unable to Overcome Yellow Jackets

ASHLAND, VA. — Although the strong efforts of Alissa Johnson and her seven points were on full display, the Southern Virginia University Women's Lacrosse team (1-2) could not overcome the strong offensive talent of Randolph-Macon (3-4), falling to the Yellow Jackets 18-9.

The game started with a strong start for the Knights, with Tyler John scoring the first goal, assisted by Alissa Johnson. However, the Yellow Jackets quickly answered back with goals from Lilly Fowler and Elaina Creekmore, with assists from Amelia Davis and Evie McNeally, respectively.

Johnson took matters into her own hands, scoring three goals to tie the game up at 4, but the Yellow Jackets punched back, closing the first half out with four unanswered goals to head into the halftime break with a comfortable 9-5 advantage.

The momentum for Randolph-Macon carried into the third quarter, opening the second half with two unassisted goals from McNeally and Creekmore before Johnson added two more goals to her total, cutting the deficit to four, 7-11.

The fourth quarter saw the Yellow Jackets confidently cement their victory, outscoring the Knights 7-2, locking in their 18-9 win.

Alissa Johnson led the boxscore for Southern Virginia, scoring a season-high seven points off five goals and two assists. Tyler John recorded her first goals of the season, tallying two in the team's outing. In goal, Morgan Bunch did all she could, recording nine saves.

The Knights have a quick turnaround, welcoming Juniata College in Knight Stadium for the team's season's home opener on Thursday, March 16. The opening draw is slated for 4 pm.
