VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – After falling behind 10-5 in the first half, the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team staged a 14-2 comeback to pull off a 19-12 victory over non-conference opponent Virginia Wesleyan.
The Marlins (2-9) struck first, less than two minutes into the game. Two minutes later, Spencer Tunick answered for the Knights (5-8) on a pass from Shawn Lamb.
The Knights snagged another goal, and two to start the second, before Virginia Wesleyan would score four man-up goals in two minutes. Lamb scored a goal with ten seconds left in the half to cut into the Marlin's lead.
In the second half, the Knights offense scored 14 goals, including eight straight, and the defense held the Marlins to just two scores and the win.
Lamb led the way with five goals and a career-high six assists. Anthony Good also recorded five goals for the Knights, adding an assist. Casey Rich chipped in for goals and a pair of assists.
Defender Colin Maxfield scored his first goal of the year in the win.
Ian Arave earned the win in goal, playing the final three quarters of the game, recording 10 saves and sparking the comeback.
The Knights will play at Wesley College on Saturday, in the final regular season game of the season. A Southern Virginia win, or Marymount loss on Saturday will give the Knights the sixth and final playoff berth in the conference tournament.
