BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia men's lacrosse team lost a physical battle to the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College by a 19-11 margin on Wednesday night in a non-conference contest.
In the first quarter Southern Virginia (5-6, 2-3 CAC) fell behind 6-2. In the second Zach Danneman and Casey Rich combined for five goals to tie the game at seven just before halftime.
Southern Virginia was only able to find the back of the net four times in the second half and the Marlins (7-3, 1-2 ODAC) scored 12 more goals, including three in the final minutes of the game.
Casey Rich led the Knights with five goals. Zach Danneman added three goals and one assist. Payton Kimber scored two goals and Brady Cook added one goal and one assist.
Ian Arave recorded 15 saves in goal for Southern Virginia. Virginia Wesleyan outshot the Knights 50 to 27.
Southern Virginia hosts conference opponent Christopher Newport University on Saturday, April 2 at 3 p.m. at The Fields.
