Southern Virginia Men’s Soccer Defeats Mary Baldwin; Clinch Postseason Berth

BUENA VISTA, Va. - After a cold, rainy, offensive-filled night, the Southern Virginia University men's soccer team produced a gutsy win, defeating Mary Baldwin 3-2.

With Brevard's loss to Pfeiffer, the win punches the Knights ticket to the USA South Tournament in dramatic fashion.

Tate Hickman got the scoring started in the 18th minute after tapping home an excellent cross from Kenyon Grange. The goals continued from there.

Dante Leguizamon joined the fun when he guided a shot past the keeper in the 37th minute after a nice feed from Benjamin Simister.

Despite the deficit, Mary Baldwin fought back to shock the Knights by scoring two goals in short order. However, Tate Hickman found another teammate wide open in the box late in the half. Brock Hester made no mistake, potting his second of the season to retake the lead.

After taking the one-goal lead into the half, Southern Virginia added to their lead in the second. Kohl Simmons converted on a volley in heavy traffic, rifling a shot into the right corner to double the lead.

The Knights were on cruise control from there. Troy Chamberlain shut the door in net and the scoring ended with Tate Hickman's second of the night.
